2010 Season Information

Since its inception in 1901, the award-winning WVU Band has dramatically evolved in size, reputation, membership diversity, and performance style/quality.  The band's reputation around the University, the state, the region, and the nation shows that we are firmly established as one of the premier collegiate marching bands!  Demand for acceptance into the WVU Band continues to remain strong and we are once again nearing record enrollment with the current size of the 2010 band!

The 2010 season is going to be filled with great music, challenging drill moves, and lasting friendships. Expectations are high for our football team once again this season as the Mountaineers have "Heisman Trophy hopeful" Noel Devine, and leading receiver Jock Sanders back for their senior seasons, the most returning starters of any team in the BIG EAST, and a very fine recruiting class on board.  Coach Stewart and the guys should have an outstanding season again this year.

A major improvement to our rehearsal field is nearing completion as the new "rehearsal tower" has finally arrived!  This new structure should allow us to have a better (and safer!) view of the field during rehearsal which should help us to improve our efficiency this year.  We are also unveiling a brand new state-of-the-art sound system as part of the upgrade to the tower.  In addition to allowing us to get information to you with more clarity, just wait until you hear how great the tunes sound during this year's band camp stretching sessions!

Our home football schedule is both challenging and exciting, as we again have seven home games this year, including several national TV home games already confirmed and big games including the return of the series against border rival Maryland, a visit by UNLV, perennial Big East contenders Cincinnati and Rutgers and also Big East rival USF for a Thursday night ESPN game!

We have a fun and rewarding travel schedule that features trips to the LSU, Marshall, and PITT away games. The chance to perform at "Death Valley" in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for one of the largest crowds in WVU Band history in one of the greatest college football venues in the United States for another Sudler band in LSU will require us to certainly be rehearsing and performing at the "top" of our game!  We are also exploring the possibility of doing an exhibition performance in southern West Virginia while on the LSU trip.  A trip to Kingwood for the Buckwheat Festival, a performance at the stadium for the Morgantown HS Band Spectacular and a special invitation to perform at a large band festival in Fairfax County, Virginia round out the projected field performance schedule.
