Auditions held this weekend

audition.jpgBrass and woodwind auditions for the 2007 Edition of the WVU Marching Band were held Saturday at the Creative Arts Center. Tara Mayle, a senior at Morgantown High School, is auditioning for the Marching Band Director, Jay Drury.

If, for some reason, you could not attend the auditions this weekend, simply contact the WVU Band Office to either arrange a personal audition or, for instrumentalists, submit an audition tape. Because most vacancies will be filled from the audtions on the April 14 & 15, it is important that you audition as soon as possible.

Donovan Sarr from Mt. Gilead, OH, is one of 10 individuals auditioning for a spot as Feature Twirler. Candidates performed a solo routine (one baton) and then a second routine (multiple baton) of their choice in front of a panel of judges. Areas that are considered in judging include: showmanship, speed, difficulty, poise/balance, variety and "showiness" or visibility (that is, will the work "show" in a large football stadium ?).

Twirlers who have previously twirled for the WVU Marching Band are required to audition each year. Thus, the twirling positions are open each year. Based on the judges recommendation, up to four twirlers may be selected to twirl with the WVU Band.
