ATTENTION ALL 2006 MEMBERS! PLEASE READ!

Hello Everybody!

I hope this message finds you all rested and relaxed, and excited about a new marching band season!  It is almost here!!

We are busy here in the band office, finishing up the details and putting the final touches on plans for our 105th edition of "The Pride!"

Final numbers are still being calculated (since some people have not returned their uniform cards yet... hint hint!), but we are excited that all indications point to a band of about 370 members!

Just a quick message to everyone to float out an announcement...

We are looking for a few good men or women who are up to the challenge of switching to TUBA!!

Yes, you heard me right...  TUBA!

As you know, we have been very fortunate to have an overabundance of great TUBAS in our band for the past several years.

However, after a large graduating class, combined with a few transfer students and some returning members who are going to be away for the beginning of the season in the Military, we are going to start the season with a shortage of TUBAS.

We are pleased to announce that through the generosity of the President and the Provost's office, we will have 28 brand-spanking new TUBAS to use this year!

We don't want to have to keep several of them in the cases...

If you feel that you might be interested, and are up to the challenge of learning to play TUBA, or you already have some low brass experience, we would love to hear from you.

Please understand that this is a serious request and that we are looking for people who want to do a good job.

The TUBAS are a great group of fun-loving (and slightly bizarre) people, but they take pride in what they do, and we only want to consider people who will help them to continue to perform at a high level.

Please realize that a TUBA can get heavy after a while, so if you are not a very strong person, or you don't like to carry some extra weight, this might not be the move for you.

This is a great opportunity for people in large sections (Piccolo, Saxophone) who are looking for a way to get out of the shadows of the "masses" and into the spotlight!

If you are interested in possibly switching to TUBA, or if you just want to learn more about this possibility, please contact Chris Nichter at chrisn80@mac.com , or at WVUBand@mail.wvu.edu

Thanks for considering this request, and we will see you all in a little over a week!!
