Wilcox Earns Director of Bands Emeritus Status

We would like to extend our congratulations to our long-time Director of Bands, Don Wilcox, who recently achieved the status of  "Professor Emeritus" from West Virginia University.  Achieving "Emeritus" status is a high honor that is obtained only after a retiring from a long and distinguished career of service to the university.

After 34 years as the Director of Bands at WVU, Mr. Wilcox retired in May after conducting the University Wind symphony at WVU's Commencement Ceremony.  Since his arrival in 1971, he has guided the band program at WVU to a place of national prominence and he has gained a reputation as one of the top wind band conductors in the country.

Mr. Wilcox plans to remain active as a guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician, and he will travel extensively around the country and the world sharing his wisdom, knowledge and lifetime of experience with students of all walks of life.  Mr. Wilcox has also been given the title of  "Director for Life" from the WVU Alumni Band, and will be leading members of that group on their second European Tour later this summer. We also look forward to his continued interaction with the bands here at WVU when his busy schedule will allow.

Congratulations and best wishes, Mr. Wilcox!
